Kraak & Smaak

What’s the gig your most proud of?

For me personally that would be Sziget in 2006. We played there as one of the last live acts of the festival and it was really packed in that tent, it was a crazy, frantic gig with everybody going out of their heads, really rock’n roll!

What’s the artist/band you’d kill to play with in a concert?

We’d love to be on stage with so many people and its great that the odds are that this will become easier and easier in the future. But if we would have to name a few these would for instance be Snoop Dogg, Roisin Murphy and Gil Scott-Heron.

What are the major difference between what Kraak&Smaak in the early days and Kraak & Smaak today, touring the world and with two albums released?

Far more experienced of course in terms of performing live and as dj’s. Moreover, the Plastic People album feels to us as a logical progression from Boogie Angst in terms of production sound, composition, etc. More like a proper artist album with songs.

When working on your second album what were your major influences? How much does “Plastic People” differ from “Boogie Angst”?<

guess it' s more electronic than the first one. It is still the ‘K&S sound’ but it’s less sample-based and less light-hearted than Boogie Angst. More vocals, somewhat darker at times. At the time of producing PP we listened to Trentemoller, dubstep, French electro stuff, Soulwax, etc.

Club vs stadium. Which one do you like the most?

It’s difficult to choose as they are not really comparable. We have been lucky though to have been able to experience them both. Small clubs can be cozy and often you can go a little deeper musically there, for example with dj’ing. At the other hand, the great thing about a festival crowd is that you have to strip down your act to make more impact; there is no room for subtleties. You have to ‘supersize’ everything. And if that works the feedback of such a big crowd can be enormously satisfying!
